I'm an applied microeconomist at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) and study topics relating to the economics of education, child development and public service delivery in low- and middle-income countries.
I serve on the Board of MIT's Jameel Poverty Action Lab (JPAL) as co-Chair of the Education Sector, on the Academic Leadership Team of the What Works Hub for Global Education at the University of Oxford, and as an Associate Editor at The Economic Journal.
I am also affiliated with the CESifo Research Network, the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis in Development (BREAD), the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the Center for Global Development, and ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin, At SSE, I am a Faculty Affiliate of the Mistra Centre for Sustainable Markets (MISUM) and the House of Governance and Public Policy at SSE.
Before moving to SSE, I was based at the Department of Economics at UCL. I received my doctorate in Economics from the University of Oxford and a BA (Hons.) in Economics from the University of Delhi.
My research has been funded by the UK's FCDO, the Gates Foundation, Economic and Social Research Council (UK), the Asian Development Bank Institute and the Handelsbanken foundations. I was awarded an ERC Starting Grant from 2023-2028 for the project EDINCLUSION which will look at social inclusion in Indian private schools.
